The Calabogie Blues and Ribfest is pleased to announce its initial line up for its three day festival August 18, 19 and 20 at Calabogie Peaks Resort.

Friday starts off with Blues and Company followed by the return of the Carson Downey Band. Victor Wainwright and the Wildroots round out the Friday line up.

Saturday features Big Sugar making their first appearance in Calabogie supported by Tom Lavin and the Legendary Powder Blues Band supporting. The day is jam packed with quality rockin’ blues bands including the Weber Brothers, JW Jones, Lyle Odjick and the Northern Steam, and Kyle Lalone kicks it all off.

Festival Talent Coordinator Todd Bernard says, “…we are very pleased with the quality of the line up again this year. In our 7th year we are now able to bring back the highest quality acts from previous years like Tom Lavin and the Legendary Powder Blues Band and the Weber Brothers while adding amazing new performers like Big Sugar.”

The Sunday line up will be announced soon along with more performers to be added throughout the weekend.

The festival also features Ribbers from all over North American smoking amazing ribs and chicken and competing for the coveted People’s Choice award.

Provincial funding for Calabogie festivals

Renfrew Mercury April 27, 2016

The Mountain Man Music Festival in Calabogie 
and the Calabogie Blues and Ribfest are among the recipients of recently announced provincial funding.

Ontario is contributing almost $1.1 million to festivals and events in Eastern Ontario as part of Celebrate Ontario 2016 to increase tourism, stimulate local economies and create jobs, says an April 21 press release from Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal. The Mountain Man Music Festival is getting $140,406 and the Calabogie Blues and Ribfest has been awarded $154,000. Both events are held at Calabogie Peaks.

“This announcement demonstrates our government’s commitment to supporting local festivals across Ontario and ensuring these important events continue to succeed and thrive,” said Leal. “The investment in Eastern Ontario will help these important local tourism operations to attract more visitors, promote local tourism and create economic opportunities for our communities.” Through the Celebrate Ontario 2016 program, the province is helping 21 festivals and events in Eastern Ontario that showcase Ontario’s culture, heritage and diversity, while also enhancing visitor experiences and increasing attendance.

“Ontario is home to many unique and diverse festivals and events that showcase our province and attract visitors from all over the world,” said Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “I’m proud that through Celebrate Ontario, our government continues to support this vibrant sector. Our investment will help festivals and events offer new and expanded experiences that will support local economic growth, create jobs and draw tourists to communities across the province.”

Announces Full Lineup for 2015 Festival


OTTAWA, Ont. (May 12, 2015) – As we head into the 5th year of the Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest, organizers are thrilled to announce another stellar lineup for the August 14, 15 & 16 festival.

Hitting up the stage Friday night is Shemekia Copeland and an awesome 5th Anniversary Calabogie Blues & Rifest Jam with ‘Bogie Veterans Jack DeKeyzer, David Gogo and Jerome Godboo.  All three artists have taken to the Calabogie Blues & Ribfest stage at some point since it’s inception in 2011.

Rocking the stage on Saturday August 15th will be Drew Nelson, Guy Belanger, Fathead, Steve Strongman, and Keb’ Mo’.  The three time Grammy Award Winner had added Calabogie Blues & Ribfest as the only Canadian stop on his North American tour featuring his new album ‘Americana’.

Band Director, Yves Trottier says “We are so excited to have the very best in Canadian blues talent rounded out by Keb’ Mo’ – a true living link to Delta Blues that influenced so many artists.”

Finally, Sunday at The Peaks we’ll see Al Wood and Grady Champion taking the Calabogie stage. Wood also appeared at the very first Calabogie Blues & Ribfest 5 years ago.

Just as in previous years, mountainside camping will be available all weekend long.  Popup tent trailers, RVs and tents are all welcome, and must be booked ahead of time.  There will also be ribs, a beer garden, vendor’s area, kids’ zone and of course, some of North America’s biggest and best blues acts.  Also back for the 2015 season – Saturday night fireworks, which are always a favorite with the crowd!

Announces FULL Lineup for 2014 Festival

OTTAWA, Ont. (May 5, 2014) – It’s the 4th year of the Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest, and organizers are announcing a bigger and better than ever lineup for the festival! 

Hitting the Calabogie stage on Friday evening is The 24th Street Wailers followed by Anthony Gomes and headlining Friday is the one and only David Wilcox.  After more than 20 years in the business, gold and platinum albums and worldwide fame, organizers are thrilled to have David Wilcox play the Calabogie blues stage on August 15th.

Saturday at the Peaks, Wicked Grin will start the day, followed by Raoul and the Big Time, then Charlie A’Court.  Up next will be Canadian blues legend The Paul DesLauriers Band, and headlining the night is Jimmie Vaughan.  Vaughan, brother to Stevie Ray Vaughan, is a legend in his own right.  He has been called one of the most respected guitarists in the world of popular music, who has appeared as a guest artist on albums with B.B. King, Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana.

Finally, Sunday at the Blues & Ribfest, will be Jerome Godboo, followed by Angel Forrest.  Up next is a regular at Calabogie Weekends in the winter, Dawn Tyler Watson & Ben Racine Band.  Headlining Sunday at the festival will be the Kelly Richey Band.  Kelly has been described as “Stevie Ray Vaughan trapped in a woman’s body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out”.  She is a master blues guitarist who has been compared to Jimi Hendrix, and she’ll be rocking the foot of Calabogie Mountain on August 17th.

Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest
to Hold Guitar & Harmonica Workshops at Festival

OTTAWA, Ont. (July 18, 2013) – Following the popularity of the workshops at last year’s event, organizers have announced a new lineup of lessons for guitar and harmonica players attending the 2013 Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest.

Festival goers are encouraged to bring their instruments, and have a sit down lesson with some of the artists who will be playing the event.  Children are encouraged to participate with their own guitar lesson on Saturday August 17th at 1:30pm with Maria Hawkins.  Adults can get in on the fun later the same day, at 3pm with Steve Hill. 

Sunday August 18th at 1pm, there will be a harmonica workshop with Joe Murphy.  At 2:20pm on the same day, Peter Karp and Sue Foley will be hosting a blues music workshop.

The event’s title sponsor, Class Axe Guitars, will be on site with guitars available for purchase.

Also back from last year, organizers are planning an after party.  Rocket Rached and the Fat City 8 will perform after the show on the main stage, both Friday and Saturday nights at 11:30pm.  The after show will be at Black Donald’s, on the main festival grounds.  They will be inviting all the musicians playing over the weekend to join them at the after party.  This performance will only be available to festival goers with VIP access.

Announces Full Lineup

OTTAWA, Ont. (April 10, 2013) – With the Calabogie Blues & Ribfest gaining in popularity every year, producers are excited to announce Colin James as the headliner for the 2013 festival.  The rest of the lineup has also been announced this week.

Starting out on Friday August 16th is Firebelly, followed by Paul Reddick and headlining Friday night is Johnny Winter.  After being featured in Rolling Stone in 1968, Johnny Winter prompted a bidding war between music labels.  He has since played at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival, and has been nominated for several Grammys.

Saturday August 17th will be a busy day at the Peaks, starting out with Three Times Lucky followed by Ben RacineSoulstack and Steve Hill will also be taking the stage on Saturday followed by festival headliner, Canada’s own blues superstar Colin James.  Colin is a Juno Award winning artist with multiple number one singles.  He’s toured with Keith Richards, reached #3 on the U.S. radio charts and is even credited with launching the swing revival.  This summer he’s headed to Calabogie to headline the third annual Calabogie Blues & Ribfest!

Yves Trottier, Artistic Director of the festival says, “Colin James takes the festival to a new level.  With the release of his new album ‘Twenty Five Live’, his first ever live album, Colin showcases the best of his original songs and great covers of artists like Van Morrison, Toots and the Maytals and much more.  We are looking forward to hearing the very best of Colin James at our homegrown festival!”

The festival continues on Sunday August 18th with Peter Karp & Sue Foley.  Maple Blues Award winner Suzie Vinnick is up next followed by Joe Murphy and finally Carson Downey.  The Carson Downey Band has won over a dozen awards across the country, and has toured all of Canada.  They’ve also completed tours in Germany, Greenland and parts of the USA.

CALABOGIE BLUES & RIBFEST RECEIVES CELEBRATE ONTARIO GRANT

Canadian Blues Legend Colin James and Johnny Winter To Headline Festival

Calabogie, (ON):  Battle of the Barbeques and boogie with the Blues!  Thanks to the tremendous support of the Province of Ontario’s Celebrate Ontario Program, Greater Madawaska Township is pleased to announce that the 3rd Annual Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest will be showcasing some of the finest Blues music found anywhere in North America!  The Township of Greater Madawaska received a grant from the Ministry of Tourism’s Celebrate Ontario Program, and these funds will help not only to secure some of the top Blues performers, but also help attract a greater audience to the township.  The Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest will be held the weekend of August 16-18, 2013 at the Calabogie Peaks Resort, less than an hour away from the City of Ottawa.

Celebrate Ontario Grants help new and existing Ontario festivals and events enhance their programs, activities and services. This support helps grow tourism in the province by making it easier for event organizers to offer new and improved experiences that will attract more tourists and increase visitor spending.

The Wynne Government is proud to support local festivals and events like the Calabogie Blues & Ribfest,” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.  “Through Celebrate Ontario we are helping festivals and events attract broader audiences, increase visitor spending and boost local economies - ultimately creating jobs in the Greater Madawaska Township and across our great province.”

Greater Madawaska Township Mayor Peter Emon acknowledged the support of the business community within the township.  “Our township has partnered with Calabogie Peaks Resort and many other local businesses to help deliver one of the biggest festivals in Eastern Ontario.  The Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest is a great way for tourists to discover the many opportunities available in our region and it allows our business community to benefit from the many economic development spinoffs from this event.”

Third Annual Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest Announcing Saturday Night Lineup

OTTAWA, Ont. (March 15, 2013) – Heading into their third year, the Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest is thrilled to announce its Saturday night lineup, and headliner for the 2013 show.

Starting out the night on Saturday August 17th is the Ben Racine Band, recently nominated as New Artist of the Year at the 2012 Maple Blues Awards.  Soulstack is also taking the stage that night, delivering a mix of urban blues and Memphis soul, with grit.  Also playing August 17th is Steve Hill.  Vancouver’s Real Blues magazine proclaimed Hill to be the best young blues guitar player in North America.

OTTAWA, Ont. (September 20, 2012) – With such overwhelming response from the 2012 Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest, the team at 101.9 DAWG FM and Calabogie Peaks Resort are proud to present “Calabogie Blues Weekend”.  On November 10th, 2012, blues fans and bands alike will gather at Calabogie Peaks Resort for a night of good music, good food, and good times.

Playing on the night of November 10th, Calabogie Blues Weekend welcomes Dawn Tyler Watson & Paul Deslauriers.  Watson is a multiple nominee of Canadian Maple Blues Awards in numerous categories including Best New Artist and Entertainer of the Year.  Deslauriers is also a nominee of a prestigious Maple Blues Award, and winner of the Lys Blues Award for Best Artistic Performance in 2011.

OTTAWA, Ont. (August 7, 2012) – Calabogie Blues & Ribfest is giving festival goers a very rare opportunity to learn guitar and harmonica from Juno and Maple Blues Award winning artists – Canada’s best blues talents.  Free Guitar AND Harmonica Workshops will be held at the festival on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th

The free workshops will be taught by Guy Belanger and Jack de Keyzer at various times on Saturday, and JW-Jones and David Rotundo on Sunday.

Legendary Powder Blues Band to Headline Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest

OTTAWA, Ont. (June 14, 2012) – Canada’s premier blues act, and Juno Award winning Powder Blues Band will be headlining Calabogie Bluesfest this year.  The band has over a dozen Gold, Platinum and Double Platinum records.

Several new bands have been added to the schedule lineup in the past couple weeks, and blues fans across Ontario have given their nod of approval.

On Friday August 17th, festival goers can look forward to Terry Gillespie, Shakura S’Aida and the legendary Downchild Blues Band headlining the night.  The Juno nominated Downchild is travelling the country on their Flip Flop & Fly Tour this summer. 

Starting on Saturday August 18th is Rocket Rached & the Fat City 8, followed by Bill Durst, Bob Walsh, Jack de Keyzer and headlining is the Powder Blues Band.  Leader, Tom Lavin has written many well known blues tracks including “Doin’ it Right” (On the Wrong Side of Town) & “Boppin’ With the Blues”.  Flying in from Vancouver exclusively for this bluesfest, Powder Blues is one of Canada’s most treasured blues acts.

Finally on Sunday August 19th, Jeff Rogers starts the day, followed by Trevor Finlay, JW-Jones and David Rotundo.

Calabogie Blues and Ribfest 2012 Lineup Announced

OTTAWA, Ont. (May 16, 2012) – As the Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest is just three months away, festival planners have finally announced the weekend lineup.  Appearing at the second annual festival will be, Trevor Finlay, Shakura S’Aida, Jack de Keyzer, Bob Walsh & Guy Belanger, Bill Durst, JW-Jones and finally, two of Canada’s biggest blues acts, the legendary Downchild Blues Band and Powder Blues Band.

Yves Trottier, Artistic Director of Calabogie Blues & Ribfest says “I am very happy with the lineup.  I can’t think of top Canadian blues bands, both past and present, and not include performers from this group.  This may be the first time that Powder, Downchild, Jack de Keyzer & Bob Walsh have played at the same venue.  It certainly is a first for Calabogie and we can’t wait to see them rock!”

The event will take place at Calabogie Peaks resort, August 17, 18 & 19. Aside from the blues stage with live music all weekend long, there will be camping available at the beautiful foot of Calabogie Mountain.  Tents are welcome, as are trailers and RV camping.

Lineup Announcement May 16

OTTAWA, Ont. (May 11, 2012) – As preparations are well underway for the Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest, organizers are getting ready to announce the full lineup for the second annual festival.  Blues fans have been anxiously awaiting, and the announcement will finally be made this Wednesday, May 16th

Just a couple weeks ago, festival organizers were pleased to announce their partnership with Celebrate Ontario.  Yves Trottier, Artistic Director, Calabogie Blues & Ribfest, says “We are very pleased that Celebrate Ontario Grant funding has helped us grow the line up significantly this year to include some of the top Canadian blues bands.  We think fans will be blown away by this line up that brings bands together from all across Canada to play at Calabogie Peaks”.

Both tent and trailer or RV camping will be available at the foot of the beautiful Calabogie Mountain.  Families are welcome, as there will be kids activities available.  In addition to the Steam Whistle Pilsner beer garden, there will be a bigger vendor’s area, more ribbers and of course, more blues acts at the 2012 festival.

CALABOGIE BLUES & RIBFEST RECEIVES CELEBRATE ONTARIO GRANT

Helping To Attract Tourists To Calabogie For The 2nd Annual Blues Festival

Calabogie (ON), April 27, 2012:  Battle of the Barbeques and boogie with the Blues!  Thanks to the tremendous support of the Province of Ontario’s Celebrate Ontario Program, Greater Madawaska Township is pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest will be showcasing some of the finest Blues music found anywhere in North America!  The Township of Greater Madawaska received a grant from the Ministry of Tourism’s Celebrate Ontario Program, and these funds will help not only to secure some of the top Blues performers, but also help attract a greater audience to the township.  The Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest will be held the weekend of August 17-19, 2012 at the Calabogie Peaks Resort, less than an hour away from the City of Ottawa.

Celebrate Ontario Grants help new and existing Ontario festivals and events enhance their programs, activities and services. This support helps grow tourism in the province by making it easier for event organizers to offer new and improved experiences that will attract more tourists and increase visitor spending.

The McGuinty Government is proud to support local festivals and events like the Calabogie Blues & Ribfest,” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.  “Through Celebrate Ontario we are helping festivals and events attract broader audiences, increase visitor spending and boost local economies - ultimately creating jobs in the Greater Madawaska Township and across our great province.”

Greater Madawaska Township Mayor Peter Emon acknowledged the support of the business community within the township.  “Our township has partnered with Calabogie Peaks Resort and many other local businesses to help deliver one of the biggest festivals in Eastern Ontario.  The Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest is a great way for tourists to discover the many opportunities available in our region and it allows our business community to benefit from the many economic development spinoffs from this event.”

Paul Murphy, President of Calabogie Peaks Resort, is looking forward to welcoming returning and new visitors to the area.  “The natural amphitheatre created by the mountain makes Calabogie an ideal festival location.  Calabogie Peaks hosts thousands of festival guests inside a beautiful environment bounded by Calabogie Lake, the mountain and endless acres of pristine nature. Very few festivals offer this unique combination of Blues music, resort amenities and recreation experiences,” said Murphy.

OTTAWA, Ont. (January 11, 2012) – After a very successful first year, the dates have been finalized for the 2012 Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest.  The second annual event will be taking place at Calabogie Peaks Resort, August 17th, 18th and 19th, 2012.

Blues artists and ribbers from across North America will be taking over the Calabogie mountainside for a weekend of all things blues.

“We are looking forward to building on last year’s success, and we have a couple of surprises in store.  More ribbers, more blues acts, more food choices and the same great hospitality that made this a premier event!”  said Paul Murphy, Co-Chair of Calabogie Blues & Ribfest.

Just as they did last year, Calabogie Peaks and 101.9 DAWG FM are working together to make the weekend fun for families and people of all ages.  There will be a beer garden, vendor’s area, kids’ zone and back for the 2012 festival – a campsite on the festival grounds at the foot of the mountain.

Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest allowing RVs & popup tents at festival!

OTTAWA, Ont. (July 11, 2011) – It’s official, Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Blues & Ribfest is now Ontario’s only bluesfest to allow RVs and pop-up tents at their all weekend festival. From August 12th to the 14th blues fans and ribbers can camp out and stay in the centre of the action all weekend.

Weekend tickets and weekend camping tickets are all available online at calabogieblues.com. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Blues in Schools and the Renfrew Health Services Village.

“This festival is just the beginning, it’s the first annual and we plan to be a part of summers in Calabogie for years to come. We are proud to be able to stand out in the festival scene with our allowance of RVs and popup tents on site. OTTAWA, Ont. (June 22, 2011) – Blues artists and ribbers from across Canada and the US will gather August 12, 13 & 14 at Calabogie Peaks Resort to celebrate the first annual Class Axe Guitars Calabogie Peaks Blues & Ribfest, in partnership with 101.9 DAWG FM.

More than just an occasion to get out for the weekend and listen to live blues bands from across Canada, Class Axe Guitars, 101.9 DAWG FM and Calabogie Peaks have integrated their blues fest with a rib fest – for a weekend long celebration of all things ribs and blues!

Visitors will enjoy a beer garden located by the main stage, a vendor’s area, a kids’ zone with face painting and rides, the 101.9 DAWG FM Blues Cruiser, live blues music and Canadian and US ribbers vying for the best ribs in town.

“Calabogie Peaks Resort is very excited to host, with DAWG FM, the first large scale music event ever at the mountain. Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, The Peaks is one of Ontario’s premier ski & all season resorts, offering year around amenities. With more bands still to be announced, the current lineup is:  Johnny Max Band, David Gogo, Monkey Junk, Jesse Green Band, Al Wood and the Woodsmen, Al Tambay, Wild T & the Spirit, Guitar Explosion with Steve Strongman and Paul Deslauriers.

“Class Axe Guitars is thrilled to be associated with DAWG FM and Calabogie Peaks for their first Annual Blues Festival.  We feel it is a great fit for the three of us.  Guitars and the blues are my two main passions, and it is great to see a straight ahead blues festival coming to the Ottawa Valley.” said Bob Besharah, Owner of Class Axe Guitars.
